This jiari shakuhachi is made from japanese madake bamboo harvested around 40 years ago. This length of time of drying makes excellent bamboo for shakuhachi. The flute has a rich variety of tonal colours, quick attack and overall great response. It has excellent tuning with an easy accessible otsu and kan register and is also capable of the full dai-kan range.
The bamboo has some intersting markings and is solid thick walled piece. The slighly oval shape together with a well balanced weight at ca. 461g is comfortable to hold.. There is a surface crack near the joint but it is bound and stable. There are traditional rattan bindings on the middle joint rings and the bore is finished with black urushi.
This shakuhachi can be used for various styles and genres e.g. honkyoku, sankyoku or modern music. The shakuhachi comes with a protective utaguchi cap and a carrying bag. (see pictures)
