This 2.1 jiari shakuhachi is made from Japanese madake bamboo. The shakuhachi has good tone colour, with a round dark tone center. It has a good response and balance throughout the octaves. Both, otsu and kan register are easy accessible and the flute is also capable of the dai-kan range. (played up to ro in fourth octave)
There are the usual traditional rattan bindings and metal rings for strengthing on the middle joint and the bore is finished with red urushi lacquer. The bamboo piece is a solid thick piece of madake, and the 525g weight is well proportioned to comfortable to hold and play the instrument. There are three preventive bindings at the top part as a hairline crack was present. This doesn’t affect playability and is stable now.
This shakuhachi can be used for various styles and genres due to its playability, its 2.1 length qand full tone makes it particular suitable to the honkyoku repertoire.
