This jiari shakuhachi is made from japanese madake bamboo. The flute has a soft roundish tone colour with a full and immersive sound colour, great response and balance throughout the octaves. Both, otsu and kan register are easy accessible and capable of the full dai-kan range, playing up to ro in the 4. octave.
There are traditional rattan bindings on the middle joint and the bore is finished with black urushi. The bamboo was adjusted in two places to create ideal node spacings to place finger holes, then finished with rattan to blend into the bamboo. There are some superficial short fissures near the traditional root-end from the the bamboo straightening process. Those have been stable for many years. The bamboo is slightly oval and comfortable to hold as at 351 gram the flute is rather light.
This shakuhachi can be used for various styles and genres e.g. honkyoku, sankyoku or modern music. The shakuhachi comes with a bag (silver-grey).
