shakuhachi (jiari)

bamboo: japanese madake

length: 701 mm
utaguchi: ivory (mammoth) insert with silver inlay

This shakuhachi has a beautiful darkish, soft but full tone. It has a relative wide inside bore being inspired by a kinko flute profile from the 60s/70s.  It plays very easily through the octaves with equal weight to the sound colours. It slight oval shape of the bamboo make it comfortable to hold for a thicker flute too. The holes are also off-set for easier reach. (For right-hand-bottom-players).

The bamboo markings towards the root end of the flute are exceptionally beautiful, the middle joint has rattan bindings to compliment its appearance.

The shakuhachi can be used for various styles and genres, probably particular suitable for honkyoku music. It comes with a protective utaguchi cap and a carrying bag. (see pictures)
