This 1.8 is really a pleasure to play. Great piece of madake bamboo with ideal dimension and comfortable grip. The shakuhachi has a clear and strong sound – creamy, harmonic rich otsu range with a sweet soft kan. The thickness at 37 mm diameter gives it a solid feel and at 440 gram it is still a middle weight.
I believe this is an excellent flute and possibly one of the best 1.8 flutes which came out of my workshop so far. Joint with traditional metal rings and decorative rattan binding. This shakuhachi can be used for various styles and genres (e.g. honkyoku, sankyoku, min’yō).
The shakuhachi comes with a protective utaguchi cap and a carrying bag. (see pictures)
