Teruo Furuya, director and principle instructor of the Kokusai Shakuhachi Kenshūkan (KSK) in Japan, most recent recording of a selection of classical honkyoku music.

On Honkyoku IV Uta Zukushi Furuya uses shakuhachi of 1.8 (D), 2.1 (B), 2.3 (Bb), 2.4 (A), 2.7 (G) and 3.1 (Eb) in length. The different flute lenghts invite the listener to delve deeper into the mediative and spiritual dimension of honkyoku music and Furuya’s relentless exploration of the shakuhachi’s colour, dynamic and sonic nuances takes us on a journey and guides us through some major pieces of the timeless honkyoku repertoire. Truly masterful renditions performed by one of the most accomplished shakuhachi player around.
